It was my privelege to head to Pawhuska, OK on the Osage Indian Reservation with 17 youth and 2 other leaders. While there we spent time working on homes of people living in the community, primarily painting and doing yard work. We also were able to help plan and execute a program for kids ages 5-9 at the Boys and Girls Club in Pawhuska. The program was lead by our own youth- inlcuding planning skits, songs, games, and crafts for the kids to do! I was very impressed with how much effort and thought was put into planning the various activities and how well they were executed also. Another group had the fun but challenging task of running a soccer camp every afternoon- in 100 degree weather! Mixed in with these things we had the opportunity to visit residents of a local nursing home, learn about the Osage Indians, enjoy some 3-2 softball and swimming and even see a herd of wild bison. Just ask a student when you see them around church about their time in Oklahoma, I'm sure they would love to share. I am so glad I had the opportunity to join these hard working kids. Every single person on this trip gave it all they had day in and day out. Enduring the heat without complaining, doing their best to finish the projects, and opening themselves up both to the community and to one another. I would leave tomorrow for another trip if it was with another group like this! Thank you for a wonderful week. If you would like to check out pictures go here.
